Keane Celebrate “Hopes and Fears” 20th Anniversary With Unreleased Single “Love Actually”
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of their debut album Hopes and Fears, British band Keane has released a special, previously unreleased, single “Love Actually.” The song was originally penned for the 2003 Christmas romantic comedy of the same name.
“Love Actually,” a track that captures the signature vocals of Keane‘s frontman Tom Chaplin, was initially written for the film but remained unreleased until now. Produced by the band, this poignant single is being released to coincide with the classic film’s re-release.
Tim Rice-Oxley, Keane‘s keyboardist and primary songwriter, reflects on the single’s history: “In 2002, we were an unsigned band… We all loved the song too, but having called it ‘Love Actually’, it was hard to do anything with it!” He adds that the film’s 20th anniversary provides the perfect occasion to finally record the song.
The film’s writer and director, Richard Curtis, expresses his admiration for the song and his regret at not including it in the original film. He mentions, “I’ve listened to it a lot over the years and love it even more now.”
