Zooey Celeste Teams Up With Tei Shi For New Single “Big Trouble”

Zooey Celeste has teamed up with singer-songwriter Tei Shi to release a new collaborative single, titled “Big Trouble,” which will feature on his debut album Restless Thoughts, which is set for release this Friday, November 10th, 2023, via ATO Records.

Zooey Celeste describes the creation of “Big Trouble” as a serendipitous event, “It was just a crazy burst of raw confidence,” he says, referring to his impromptu recording session that became the foundation of the song. Tei Shi, born Valerie Teicher Barbosa, provided the hook that seamlessly tied the song together, adding, “It’s a classic back and forth between two people who don’t really know if what they want is each other, but it’s playful and fun in a way that I haven’t heard indie songs be in a while.”

“Big Trouble”, produced by Nick Hakim and developed with the help of Unknown Mortal Orchestra‘s Jake Portrait, is a burst of surrealist dance-pop that encapsulates a yearning for liberation of the mind. The single’s music video, directed and choreographed by Camryn Eakes, presents a cat-and-mouse narrative between two characters caught in a cycle of a doomed relationship, yet still cherishing their joyful moments.

Zooey Celeste, an embodiment of an astral shaman, introduces Restless Thoughts as the perfect soundtrack for nocturnal escapades, aiming to offer listeners an enduring sense of transcendence. The album boasts contributions from various artists, including Tei Shi, drummer Abe Rounds, and mastering by Heba Kadry.

Celeste is set to celebrate the album release with headline shows in Los Angeles at Genghis Cohen on November 10th and in New York City at Baby’s All Right on November 18th.
