Slipknot Part Ways With Drummer Jay Weinberg After A Decade
Iconic heavy metal band Slipknot has announced a significant lineup change with the departure of their long-time drummer Jay Weinberg. The band expressed gratitude to drummer for his ten years of commitment and creativity, as well as recognizing his efforts in honoring the legacy of the band’s original drummer, Joey Jordison.
Slipknot‘s statement highlighted Jay Weinberg’s respect for Joey Jordison’s unique sound and for his contributions to Slipknot‘s last three albums. Despite these accolades, Slipknot is poised to continue its path of evolution and has decided to make a creative shift, signaling the end of Weinberg’s tenure with the group ahead of their upcoming release.
“We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the past ten years. No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style, or energy, but Jay honored Joey’s parts and contributed to the last three albums and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it,” Slipknot‘s statement read.
The announcement emphasized the group’s intent on continuing to evolve, suggesting that the decision to part ways with Weinberg was driven by a desire for a new direction. “The band has decided to make a creative decision, and to part ways with Jay. We wish Jay all the best and are very excited for what the future holds,” the statement concluded.
Weinberg, who stepped in following the departure of Jordison in 2013, has been part of Slipknot during a critical phase, helping the band maintain its status at the forefront of the metal scene. Just a few weeks ago, Weinberg was named “Metal Drummer of the Year” in Modern Drummer’s readers poll. Weinberg’s final performance with Slipknot came as recently as November 3rd, 2023, at Hell & Heaven Festival in Toluca, Mexico.
As the metal community reacts to this news, all eyes will be on Slipknot‘s next moves and the inevitable speculation about who will take the drum throne next. With a history of pushing boundaries and a promise of creative evolution, Slipknot‘s future endeavors remain highly anticipated.
