Lou Reed’s Final Solo Album “Hudson River Wind Meditations” To Be Reissued
Light in the Attic Records (LITA), in collaboration with Laurie Anderson and the Lou Reed Archive, announces the reissue of Lou Reed’s Hudson River Wind Meditations, scheduled for release on January 12th, 2024. This album, originally released in 2007, serves as Reed’s most profound exploration into ambient and drone music, marking his final solo project.
Lou Reed, a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, ventured into drone music as early as the 1960s with The Velvet Underground. His passion for this genre expanded in the ensuing years, leading to the creation of Hudson River Wind Meditations. This deeply personal work was initially crafted to accompany Reed‘s Tai Chi and yoga practices, eventually evolving into a full album with the late producer Hal Willner (Jeff Buckley, Laurie Anderson).
The reissue, available for pre-order today, has been crafted by GRAMMY®-nominated producers including Laurie Anderson, Don Fleming, Jason Stern, Matt Sullivan, and Hal Willner. The album’s restoration by GRAMMY®-winning engineer Steve Rosenthal ensures a high-fidelity experience, with mastering by GRAMMY®-nominated engineer John Baldwin and vinyl pressing by Record Technology Inc. (RTI).
Hudson River Wind Meditations consists of four tracks: “Move Your Heart,” “Find Your Note,” “Hudson River Wind (Blend the Ambience),” and “Wind Coda.” This release also features new liner notes by Yoga instructor and author Eddie Stern and a conversation between Jonathan Cott and Laurie Anderson, shedding light on Reed‘s creative process and spiritual journey.
The physical editions of the album are presented in a gatefold jacket designed by GRAMMY®-winning artist Masaki Koike, with three vinyl variants available: Black Wax, Coke Bottle Wax, and Glacial Blue Wax. The Deluxe Edition includes a CD or 2-LP set, plus exclusive photographs and a poster.
Reflecting on the album, Laurie Anderson notes, “This music is pure energy; it breathes in and out.” Eddie Stern echoes this sentiment, describing the album as a continuous flow of creation that resonates deeply with listeners. “It’s a song, and you only hear that song when you listen,” express Stern.
