Free Range Unveils “Loft Sessions” EP; Shares Single “The Moon”

Free Range, the musical moniker of Chicago’s Sofia Jensen, has officially announced the release of their new EP, Loft Sessions, set to debut on November 17th, 2023, under Mick Music. This announcement follows the success of Jensen’s earlier 2023 release, Practice.. Notably, Loft Sessions owes its name to the location of its recording: the famous Wilco studio, The Loft.

Sofia Jensen, the creative force behind Free Range, also takes on the role of producer for the EP. Loft Sessions offers a unique, bare-bones depiction of Free Range, featuring a mix of intimately reimagined tracks from Practice, three new songs, and a rendition of Townes Van Zandt‘s “Tecumseh Valley.” The lead single from the EP, “The Moon,” was released alongside this announcement.

Discussing “The Moon,” Jensen shared, “‘The Moon’ is a song about change…Oftentimes I will cling to things that are familiar when I experience this, when it would be better to simply let those things go. Clinging to the past when life is moving forward around me is something that has only distanced me more from people and things that I care about. Writing this song was my way of acknowledging that and trying to let go of someone.”

Free Range is also set to hit the road later this month, opening for Strawberry Guy in New York and on the West Coast. The tour will begin on November 28th in Brooklyn, New York, and continue through early December, wrapping up in Vancouver, British Columbia on December 10th.
