Max Frost Reveals New Sound in “Shelby Ave., Pt. 1” EP

Austin-born, Nashville-based multi-instrumentalist Max Frost is ready to redefine his sound with his newest EP, Shelby Ave., Pt. 1, featuring the electrifying single, “Cig in the Morning.” This EP serves as a teaser to a larger body of work set to release later this year, promising a departure into a more alternative and vulnerable sound.

Frost, who relocated from Los Angeles to Nashville earlier this year, drew inspiration for this project from his new environment, creatively sculpting his vision and finding a new sonic enthusiasm in the process. The EP, named after the street in Nashville where it was penned and recorded, resonates with themes of cynicism and melancholy, yet still seeks to find beauty in darkness.

Speaking about the underlying themes of his new work, Max Frost reveals, “Most of these songs are written about something that’s melancholic or dark, but they’re still trying to land in a beautiful place without bastardizing the truth. This music represents exactly how I feel about my life at this time.”

He further explains the essence of the lead single, stating that “Cig in the Morning” exemplifies the spirit of the EP, balancing the quest for meaning with the acknowledgment of its elusive nature. “It’s very much about the balance between wanting the answers and meaning in your life, yet knowing these things will forever be out of reach. You have all these questions, yet you’re just a person sitting on the porch with a cigarette.”
