Daft Punk Announce “Random Access Memories” Drumless Edition

Despite announcing their split back in 2021, French house duo, Daft Punk, are to release a drumless edition of their farewell studio album, Random Access Memories, to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

This novel rendition, due for release on November 17th, 2023, is a track-by-track reimagining, presenting each song devoid of a single drum beat, offering fans an innovative aural experience into the layered sophistication of the band’s compositions.

Though the absence of drums in Daft Punk’s music is hard to visualize, the anticipation surrounding this unique version of Random Access Memories is palpable. Earlier this year, to celebrate the album’s anniversary, Daft Punk also released a deluxe edition of the album, featuring an additional 35 minutes of previously unheard music. This initiative gave fans a refreshing glimpse into the band’s unexplored symphonies and melodic intricacies.

Since the unexpected split in 2021, both members have been engrossed in their solo pursuits. Bangalter unfolded his solo work, Mythologies, and Guy de Homem-Christo collaborated with Travis Scott on Utopia, reflecting the diverse paths the duo has traversed post their illustrious journey as Daft Punk.

The celebration of the 10th anniversary includes not only these unique releases but also a documentary series, Memory Tapes, revealing behind-the-scenes aspects and interviews with collaborators. The series provides in-depth insights into the creation of songs like “The Writing of Fragments of Time” with collaborator Todd Edwards, allowing fans to witness the creative processes and symbiotic collaborations that have characterized Daft Punk‘s musical journey.
