Chromatics’ Adam Miller Announces New EP “Illusion Pool”
Los Angeles-based musician Adam Miller, formerly of Chromatics, unveils his latest EP, Illusion Pool, scheduled to release on November 10th, 2023. To celebrate the EP announcement, Miller shares two new singles – EP title track “Illusion Pool” and a rendition of The Byrds’ timeless track, “Everybody’s Been Burned.”
Adam Miller, who has been integral in crafting Chromatics‘ unique sound and has delivered instrumental ambient guitar music through his 2022 album, Gateway, is stepping into the limelight with his vocals in Illusion Pool. The EP amalgamates Miller’s artistic journeys, echoing influences from The Durutti Column and Michael Rother, and featuring vocal contributions from Hannah Lew of Cold Beat and Grass Widow.
“As I was working on ‘Gateway,’ I never wanted to write or hear music with vocals or drums ever again, but melodies, little bits of songs, and lyrics would keep on revealing themselves to me,” reflects Miller. “When I sang on Chromatics songs, I hated my voice. I would endlessly explore ways in which I could mask it behind a fortress of effects. But over the past few years, I’ve finally learned to embrace my natural voice. It’s as if my fear of my voice vanished over the past few years. Now it feels exhilarating to be so exposed.”

Produced and recorded by collaborator Mikal Oor and Miller in their home studios and mixed by Daniel Knowles (Sharon Van Etten, Cigarettes After Sex), the EP features The Cure’s Lol Tolhurst playing drums on the title track and “Everybody’s Been Burned.” Illusion Pool is a manifestation of Miller’s endless possibilities and imagination, encapsulating his previous artistic pursuits while carving a new path forward, allowing his voice to resonate unhindered.
