Yard Act Share New Single & Announce North American Tour Dates
Acclaimed post-punk group Yard Act is back with their latest single and music video, “The Trench Coat Museum,” and has announced an upcoming US headline tour, which will bring them to cities including New York, Philadelphia, Austin, Baltimore, Nashville, Atlanta, and New Orleans. The tour will kick-off this November with tickets available for purchase starting July 14th, 2023.
“The Trench Coat Museum” was co-produced by the band and Remi Kabaka Jr. of Gorillaz, and marks Yard Act‘s first new music since the release of their critically acclaimed debut album, The Overload, which was shortlisted for the prestigious Mercury Prize and hailed as an “endlessly clever, devilishly sharp post-punk screed on British politics and class warfare” by SPIN.
The new single delves into the topics of ego, vanity, perception, and legacy, exploring frontman James Smith’s reactions to the group’s newfound fame. Smith shares, “Criticism is fair game and the internet is lawless so you gotta take it as it comes, but I definitely stopped searching for myself on Twitter the day I read that someone wanted to punch my lights out.” Smith further explains that “The Trench Coat Museum” delves into how our perceptions shift both individually and collectively over time, reflecting on how people often regard their own beliefs as the cultural norm.
The music video, directed by James Slater (Sam Fender, Jamie T), offers a continuation of the Yard Act universe from the first album, set 30 years in the future in a dystopian trench coat museum. Slater aspires to make the song feel like a mini-film, and sees it as the first part of a Yard Act movie coinciding with their next album.
