Tycho Launches New Sonic Era With Single “Time To Run”
Grammy Award-nominated electronic musician, Tycho, also known as Scott Hansen, marked the beginning of a new musical journey today with the release of his latest single, “Time To Run.” Released via Ninja Tune & Mom + Pop Music, the single is accompanied by a deeply personal music video, directed by Patrick Elmore (Bad Turner, Quiet Luke).
A return to his signature instrumental style, “Time To Run” is characterized by vibrant synth pops, a distinct guitar motif by long-term guitarist Zac Brown, and lively beats. Tycho‘s Scott Hansen collaborates with Kaelin Ellis on drums, alongside mixing with Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor and working with award-winning Joe LaPorta (David Bowie, The Weeknd) on mastering.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind the track, Hansen shares, “Music has always served as a kind of meditation for me, long before I started creating it. ‘Time To Run’ is my attempt to translate these ideas into music.” He adds, “The video for ‘Time To Run’ is autobiographical based around a cross-country meet I ran in.”
The guitarist Zac Brown explains, “Scott took the initial guitar idea, which was a prettier and subdued vibe, sped it up and gave the guitars a sample-based treatment, which along with adding a staccato synth bass made the track super funky and bouncy.”

To celebrate the release of “Time To Run,” Tycho will host a major festival event, Tycho Presents Golden States, on Saturday, July 15th, 2023, at Napa, CA’s Oxbow Riverstage. The festival, personally curated by Hansen, will include a unique Tycho set featuring classic tracks and new music from their forthcoming album. Other performances will include Channel Tres, Panda Bear & Sonic Boom, Buscabulla, Washed Out, Brijean, and Kaelin Ellis. Tickets are available here.
“I had so much fun curating events at Brooklyn Mirage in 2021 and in Denver at Colorfield in 2022 that I wanted to take those concepts further with artists we respect and admire,” says Hansen. “Golden States is the next evolution of that vision and excited to be doing it close to home in the San Francisco Bay Area.”
In addition to the festival, Tycho will be one of the first performers at Los Angeles’ new venue, The Bellwether on July 13th, 2023. Tickets are available here.
