Blanco White Announces New Album “Tarifa”

Blanco White, the project of Londoner Josh Edwards, has announced the release of his new album Tarifa, set to drop on September 29th, 2023, via Nettwerk. The lead single and album title track has also been released.

Tarifa is a deeply personal album for Edwards, reflecting his healing journey after being diagnosed with a debilitating chronic pain condition. “I booked the trip [to Tarifa] because I had begun to feel more confident in my body’s ability to work intensely on music again,” Edwards shares. “My pain levels had improved a lot… and I wanted to begin pushing myself to see how my body would react.”

The song “Tarifa” encapsulates the joy of his recovery and the renewal of his musical journey. Moreover, it reflects his personal life, written as an invitation after meeting someone new, reflecting the excitement and openness that comes with new connections.

The upcoming album straddles genres, incorporating elements of dream pop reminiscent of Beach House, folk influences like Sufjan Stevens and Feist, while also maintaining Blanco White‘s signature Andean instrumentation. The album, co-produced with percussionist Adami, focuses strongly on rhythm, with syncopation and swing central to its sound. The album is as much about healing and resilience as it is about exploration and building new worlds.

Tarifa follows the successful release of Blanco White‘s 2020 debut On the Other Side, which has amassed over 130 million streams and led to tours with renowned artists like Jose Gonzalez and Gregory Alan Isakov. Blanco White will be embarking on his own North American tour this autumn to promote the album.
