Slow Pulp Announce New Album “Yard”, Lead Single “Slugs”, And North American Tour Dates
Wisconsin-bred, Chicago-based indie rock quartet Slow Pulp has announced their new album “Yard,” set to be released on September 29th, 2023, and marks their first release via ANTI-. Accompanying the new announcement, the band are also confirmed to hit the road for an extensive North American tour and shared their brand new single, “Slugs.”
The album’s debut single “Slugs,” finds its roots in a song guitarist/producer Stoehr wrote for his sixth-grade crush. As Emily Massey (vocals, guitar) explains, “‘Slugs,’ put simply, is about falling in love in the summertime…the song lives in that place where the newness and freshness of getting to know someone turns into a tinge of fear because you realize how much you have come to care about them…But suddenly, for the first time, I found myself in something that felt safe, with healthy attachment and mutual admiration, and the inevitability of uncertainty became more easily accepted.”
The video for “Slugs,” created by Jakob Lazvick and Rich Smith, perfectly encapsulates the essence of the song, portraying a dreamy desert road-trip.

Slow Pulp‘s strong connection is rooted in decade-plus-long friendships. After recording their intimate and restless 17-minute debut, EP2, in 2017, the band relocated to Chicago and began refining their sound, eventually resulting in the creation of their debut full-length record, Moveys.
Yard‘s inception began in February 2022 when Massey stayed alone at a friend’s family cabin in northern Wisconsin. The isolation that was part of their process on Yard was significant. As Alex Leeds (bass) states, “Part of what we discovered is that taking that time to be intentionally isolated is really important, as is being more collaborative at other times…We’ve learned a lot about balancing and being intentional about that through this process.”
