Michaela Slinger Shares “This Can’t Last Forever” Music Video

Vancouver pop singer-songwriter Michaela Slinger has released a captivating music video for her title track, “This Can’t Last Forever.” The song is featured on her recently released sophomore album of the same name, out via 604 Records,. In addition to the music video, Slinger has confirmed a series of North American tour dates.

“This Can’t Last Forever” strikes a balance between infectious melodies and emotional depth. Slinger explains that the song’s title became the album’s anchor, reflecting the core themes she explored throughout the project. In her mid-to-late twenties, she acknowledges the transient nature of life, marked by significant life events. These experiences, coupled with the backdrop of the pandemic, have shaped her understanding of the ever-shifting nature of identity, beliefs, and reality.

“I had a different working title for my album before I wrote ‘This Can’t Last Forever’ with two collaborators in Nashville on my second writing trip to the city. I came to that session with the first verse lyrics, as I found myself far away from my home and my partner. After listening to the demo approximately 1,000 times in my rental car for the rest of the trip, I realized that this title captured the core themes across the project: I know I’m in a specific life stage right now in my mid-to-late-twenties, and there are many beginnings and endings ahead. During this project, I experienced the first death of a grandparent, the birth of nieces and nephews, friends getting married, parents selling my childhood home, shifting priorities, all underscored by the pandemic. Everything—including my self-identity, beliefs, and grip on reality—is temporary and ever-shifting,” explains Slinger.

In addition to her recent music video release, Slinger has confirmed North American tour dates in celebration of her sophomore album release. The tour will start in her hometown of Vancouver, BC, on May 31st and concluding in Los Angeles, CA, on June 1st as part of a Sofar Sounds series.
