Youth Lagoon Shares “Prizefighter” Single & Announces Tour Dates
Trevor Powers, better known as Youth Lagoon, has announced his return to the music scene with a new single and a North American tour. The single, titled “Prizefighter,” is the second release from his upcoming album, Heaven Is a Junkyard, which is set to be released on June 9th, 2023, via Fat Possum Records.
“Prizefighter” is a powerful and emotional exploration of the bond between two brothers, with Powers drawing on his own experiences growing up with three brothers in a homeschooling environment. In the words of Powers himself, “Our love was strong and so was our barbarity. It was real joy — the kind you didn’t have to look for cuz it smacked you in the face or pushed you off the bed into a file cabinet. Beyond that, we were homeschooled. 4 weirdos home all day who adored each other and hated each other and played baseball everyday in the backyard and threw rocks at each other’s heads and laughed ’till we threw up.”
The single is accompanied by a stunning black-and-white video directed by Tyler T. Williams, which perfectly captures the raw emotion and intensity of the song.
