The Japanese House Announces New Single, “Boyhood”
British singer-songwriter Amber Bain, better known as The Japanese House, is back with her latest introspective pop anthem, “Boyhood,”
“Boyhood” is a nostalgic reflection on Bain’s adolescence and the challenges she faced as a queer individual. The track combines driving acoustic guitar with bubbling synths, creating a dreamy and atmospheric sound. Bain sings with confidence, showcasing her acceptance of herself despite the challenges she faced growing up.
Speaking about the track, Bain explained, “This song talks about how sometimes, however hard you try, you can’t help but be a product of the things that happened to you or held you back earlier on in life. But also, and more importantly, it’s about hope for overcoming those things.”
Bain’s honesty and vulnerability in her lyrics have been a hallmark of her music since she first burst onto the scene in 2015 with her debut EP, Pools To Bathe In. Her ability to create emotionally raw and sonically innovative music has won her a dedicated following, and “Boyhood” is a testament to her continuing artistic evolution.
In an interview, Bain shared that “Boyhood” was inspired by her memories with her best friend Katie, and their dream of running away on Katie’s horse Bam Bam to escape their problems as queer lovers. “When my best friend Katie and I were young and in love, we dreamed of riding off into the distance on her horse Bam Bam, away from all the problems that came from being gay and in love back then,” Bain explained.
