Mercy Music Announce “What You Stand To Lose” Album & Share Lead Single, “Love You/Need You”

Las Vegas-based pop-punk outfit Mercy Music has announced the upcoming release of their fourth full-length album, What You Stand To Lose, set to be released on June 30th, 2023, via Double Helix Records/SBÄM Records. In addition to the album announcement, the band has also shared their lead single, “Love You/Need You.”

Vocalist and guitarist Brendan Scholz explained that “Love You/Need You” is “about coming to terms with the fact that the person you’re in love with is no longer in love with you.” He added that the lyrics in the chorus “were a way of narrowing down things said to me throughout the situation.”

Scholz went on to discuss the album’s theme, explaining that the title refers to the many monumental changes in his personal life since their last album, 2020’s Nothing in the Dark. He described What You Stand To Lose as being “about coming face to face with one of your worst fears, learning from the experience, and hoping you come out the other side a better person.”

The band also revealed that the album was produced by Bill Stevenson, known for his work with Descendents, ALL, and Black Flag, at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado. Bassist Jarred Cooper explained that working with Stevenson “injected exactly the right amount of magic and finely trained knowhow into ‘What You Stand To Lose’ that it required.”

Scholz and Cooper emphasized that they want their music to offer solace to listeners, with Scholz explaining, “I want people to know they’re not alone in whatever they’re struggling with,” and Cooper adding, “When people listen to our new album, I want them to feel happy, sad, inspired, and depressed. Then I want them to feel happy again. That last part is critically important.”
