The New Pornographers Share New Song “Angelcover”
Renowned Canadian power-pop group The New Pornographers are set to release their new album Continue As A Guest next month and have shared their latest single, “Angelcover”.
The latest single, “Angelcover,” showcases an elegant chug with an ’80s new wave influence in its chorus, typical of the band’s catchy and sophisticated style. According to A.C. Newman’s statement in a press release, “Angelcover” is another alternative universe hit that fans can expect from the band.
“I pictured this one as a weird little George Saunders-esque sketch, a snapshot. I found myself a lot more concerned with performance and/or delivery, changing melody and phrasing to get a better performance, less concerned, less precious about the original melody or lyric that I wrote. With that in mind, I had the idea of angels visiting me in the night with the message that “melody ain’t got nothing on delivery.” Kind of a fever dream, where feelings take on their own personality and shape,”, explains Newman.

While Dan Bejar will not be featured on the album, he co-wrote the lead single “Really Really Light” with A.C. Newman, which was released last month. Continue As A Guest is out March 31st, 2023, on Merge Records.
