RVG Announce Album, “Brain Worms,” And Share New Song

Melbourne post-punk band RVG has announced their highly-anticipated third studio album, Brain Worms, will be released on June 2nd, 2023, via Fire Records.

The lead single and accompanying video, “Nothing Really Changes,” gives fans a taste of what to expect from the album. The track is a keys-heavy new-wave song that started off as a catchy songwriting experiment with an obnoxious riff, according to Romy Vager, the band’s lyricist and front-woman. The accompanying video, directed by Hayden Somerville (Cong Josie, Mildlife) at the Rippon Lea Estate, features a haunting manor world that complements the melodrama and playfulness of the track perfectly.

RVG’s first album, A Quality of Mercy, was released in 2017, garnering critical acclaim and landing on countless end-of-year best-of lists. The band has since played alongside some of the world’s biggest acts and released their second album, Feral, in 2020, which Rolling Stone Australia hailed as “the record of a lifetime.” However, the bandmates agree that Brain Worms is the most confident they have ever felt in RVG.

Vager said that the new album has been about taking risks and putting themselves outside of their comfort zone. “This time around we were like, this is what we’re doing, we’re taking control, we’re taking risks, and we’re going to make an album that sounds big so that when we hear it on the radio we want to hear it again. If we could only make one more album, it would be this one.” The album features ten tracks recorded in London with James Trevascus (Nick Cave & Warren Ellis, PJ Harvey) and showcases the band’s newfound radical acceptance.

RVG will be coming stateside on March 10th-19th, 2023, for SXSW, Austin.
