Beach House Announce Five-Track EP “Become”
Acclaimed dream-pop duo Beach House has announced the release date of their new EP, Become, which will be available exclusively on crystal-clear vinyl for Record Store Day on April 22nd, 2023. The EP features five songs that were recorded during the Once Twice Melody sessions, but were not included on the album due to their unique sound.
In a statement, the band explained that the songs on Become all have a similar feel, with a “scuzzy and spacious” sound that exists in what they describe as the “spirit realm.” While they didn’t fit with the overall sound of Once Twice Melody, the band realized that they belonged together in this separate world.
“The Become EP is a collection of 5 songs from the Once Twice Melody sessions. We didn’t think they fit in the world of OTM, but later realized they all fit in a little world of their own. To us, they are all kind of scuzzy and spacious, and live in the spirit realm. It’s not really where we are currently going, but it’s definitely somewhere we have been. We hope you enjoy these tunes,” explains Beach House’s Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand.
Produced by Beach House and mixed by Alan Moulder (My Bloody Valentine, Interpol), Trevor Spencer (Cliff Richard, Olivia Newton-John), and Caesar Edmunds (Editors, Foals), Become promises to deliver the band’s signature dreamy sound with a rougher edge. Mastering was done by Greg Calbi (David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen) and Steve Fallone (Ramones, Pinegrove) at Sterling Sound.
The announcement of Become comes on the heels of the band’s successful 2022 release, Once Twice Melody, an 18-track double album that earned “Best Albums of 2022” accolades from numerous publications, including The New Yorker, Variety, and Pitchfork. The album debuted at #1 on several charts, including Billboard‘s Albums Sales Chart, Top Alternative Albums, Top Rock Albums, Tastemaker Albums, and Top Current Album Sales.
