Thee Sacred Souls, which comprises of Josh Lane, Sal Samano, and Alex Garcia, are a rising band that originated from the San Diego retro soul scene and has been garnering significant attention over the past year.
Formed when Samano and Garcia were just 23 years old, Thee Sacred Souls were inspired by the East LA band Thee Midniters and Italian library music. The band was brought together by their love for soul music, where they eventually met Lane on Instagram, who was studying classical voice at the time. The band recorded their first tracks with Daptone’s Gabriel Roth (The Dap-Kings, Amy Winehouse) just three days after he saw one of their first gigs in 2019.
Thee Sacred Souls released their self-titled debut album in August to critical acclaim, with UNCUT calling it “music of terrifyingly high quality.” Their unique blend of analog sounds and modern elements from different soul genres has been celebrated by NPR, KCRW, MOJO, and many others. They have received standing ovations and encore demands while on tour with St. Paul and The Broken Bones as well as Belle and Sebastian. The band’s popularity has only continued to grow, with over 50 million streams globally and over 11 million views on their official videos.
