Three 6 Mafia’s Gangsta Boo Dies At 43

Memphis-born Lola Mitchell, better known as her stage name Gangsta Boo and Three 6 Mafia fame, has died aged 43.

Gangsta Boo, who many consider a pioneer for women in rap, started making music in 1990s, when she teamed up with DJ Paul, Juicy J and other founding members of the rap group Three 6 Mafia, who also included the likes of Lord Infamous, Crunchy Black, Koopsta Knicca and more.

With news circling around her death early January 1st 2023, her former label-mate and Three 6 Mafia founding member DJ Paul confirmed via Instagram after posting a photo of Gangsta Boo with the caption: “MAN WE WAS JUS TOGETHER 3 WEEKS AGO đŸ„Č REST WELL QUENN”.

In addition to her work with Three 6 Mafia, she released three solo records, several mixtapes, and made countless features, which included and isn’t limited to working with Run The Jewels (El-P, Killer Mike), Gucci Mane, Lil Jon, OutKast, E-40, T.I., The Game and more.

As recently as last month, Gangsta Boo teamed up with fellow-Memphis rapper GloRilla to feature on Latto‘s ‘FTCU’ (F*** The Club Up) single. Speaking with Drink Champs, Boo said “I been watching them girls for the past couple of years and I was like, ‘What the fuck?’ It made me feel good, they represented Memphis right. It’s only been me and [La] Chat that came out of Memphis. A year later, GloRilla got signed. I got distracted because I was thinking of her glow-up. I think she was 19, remember when I was that age?”
